ABOUT USH2025
When will the International Symposium on Usher syndrome USH2025 take place?
June 19-20 and 21, 2025.
Will the symposium be live-streamed (hybrid)?
No, the entire symposium will be on location. This way we can make the symposium optimally accessible to everyone. However, video podcasts will be made during these days, which we will later broadcast via the YouTube chanel of Stichting Ushersyndroom

During the break and lunch, interpreters will be present to provide additional communication support for you in this situation as well.

Can I also read the AutoCaption (subtitles of the spoken language) on my own mobile or tablet?
Yes you can! You can adjust the text by color and size and even set your own preferred language. There are about 50 languages to choose from. We use Speaksee AutoCaption which automatically converts live speech to text and also translates it using AI.
A few weeks before the symposium starts, we will inform everyone via website and e-mail about Speaksee and how it works.
Can I bring my personal companion/assistant?
Yes, you can.. Due to safety regulations, everyone present in the building in het gebouw must also be registered. Everyone must pay for attendance and participation, even if you are a companion or individual interpreter to a participant.
Can I also visit the congress independently?
We make sure that every participant can independently orient themselves in the building and that communication is optimally supported. Accessibility is our top priority.
Can I bring my guide dog?
Of course, your guide dog is welcome. We will place water bowls in a restricted area on location. You are responsible for walking your dog. Of course, you can also ask for assistance from the volunteers who are present. These volunteers will wear a recognizable vest or shirt.
Children
Is there a minimum age for participation in the symposium?
Yes, the International Symposium on Usher syndrome is suitable from the age of 17 jaar.
Is there a special program for children?
Some parents of children with Ushers syndrome will set up a children's program with a limited number of activities. For children between the ages of 6 and 17, this will be at another location. Only for the youngest (1 to 5 years old) it will be on location.

TICKETS & REGISTRATION
Does my personal attendant also have to pay?
Yes everyone attending USH2025 pays. We try to keep ticket prices as low as possible. The ticket prices - both scientific congress and Congrestival - are not cost-recovery.
What payment methods are accepted?
You can pay with the following payment methods:

Will there be ticket sales at the door?
No, there will be no ticket sales at the door. All tickets must be ordered in advance and online.
I signed up but can't attend, now what?
Too bad you can't attend. We do not take back tickets, but it is possible to transfer your ticket to someone else. Please unsubscribe via email info@ush2025.org and also include the details of the person to whom you are transferring the ticket.
What is included in the ticket price
Yes. Participants for the scientific conference are offered lunch on both days and dinner on Thursday evening. Coffee and tea is unlimited with small snacks in between.
For participants of the Congrestival, there is unlimited coffee and tea, a lunch buffet at noon and snacks in between.
Program
Where can I find information about the program?
As soon as the speakers are announced, the program will be published on our website. In the coming months the program will be filled more and more, so check the website regularly. By the end of April the program will be completely known
Will presentations be made available after the sessions?
The USH2025 organization will compile a list of links to presentation slides, subject to availability by speakers.
During all days, speakers will be interviewed in a separate studio. These video podcasts will be published on the Stichting Ushersyndroom's YouTube channel.
LOCATION & TRAVELING
Where will USH2025 take place?
The symposium will take place at the Van der Valk hotel in Nijmegen-Lent. The address is Hertog Eduardplein 4, 6663 AN Nijmegen.

Is the location accessible by public transportation?
Yes, Nijmegen-Lent train station is right next to the venue. From Schiphol Airport there is a train every half hour towards Arnhem/Nijmegen. From Schiphol you have to change trains in Arnhem. Not all trains on the Arnhem-Nijmegen line stop at Nijmegen-Lent station. Checking in and out is easy with your debit card, mobile or credit card (OV-Pay)
Several bus lines from Nijmegen Central station and Arnhem Central station stop near the hotel.

Can I come by car?
Although we encourage visitors to travel by public transportation, you can also come by car. As a guest of the hotel, you can park free of charge in the parking garage under the Hotel. Exit cards are available at the hotel reception.
Is there an information desk?
Yes, at the entrance you will be welcomed and escorted to the registration desk.
Speakers
Can I become a speaker at USH2025?
If you register for the scientific congress (Thursday/Friday), you can indicate at registration that you want to submit an abstract. This abstract must be in by March 31, 2025. There are also possibilities for poster presentations.
Speakers for the Congrestival on Saturday will be invited personally.
Will my presentation be published?
That is up to you, but the organization encourages publication. All sessions will have a brief description on the website, and if available, links to the presentations will be shared after the symposium.

PRESS & MEDIA
Can I participate as press?
Send a request to info@ush2025.org for a media form. Press passes are issued only to accredited persons.
Can I bring my photo and/or video camera?
It is not allowed to enter the congress location with (semi) professional photo/video equipment, unless otherwise agreed upon with the organization via info@ush2025.org
For the rules regarding photo/video equipment, we would like to refer you to the general terms and conditions. In addition, the USH2025 media team will record the entire congress through photos and videos. These will be placed online during and after the congress.

Social event
For whom is the Social Event intended?
Everyone who has registered for the scientific congress and/or Congrestival, can also register for the Social Event. With the Social Event - which will take place on Friday evening, June 20 - we will conclude the scientific part of the congress .
What is the program of the Social Event?
The Social Event has primarily a cultural character in which visual art and music play a role. In a casual atmosphere there is opportunity for meeting each other and tours. The presentation of the Social Event is in the hands of well-known blind Dutch comedian Vincent Bijlo.
How much is charged for the Social Event?
The price for participation in the Social Event is €100. This amount covers costs for location, program and catering.
